Gospel Reading

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son…”

In 2009, during the Florida Gators’ National Championship game, player Tim Tebow wrote John 3:16 on his eye black, a simple act that led an estimated 90 million people to search the verse online. Three years later to the day, in his first NFL playoff game with the Denver Broncos, Tebow once again found himself connected to that same verse. He threw for 316 yards, averaging 31.6 yards per completion, and the television ratings peaked at 31.6. Reporters pointed out the uncanny “3:16” statistics, but Tebow reminded them that it wasn’t about him—it was about lifting up Christ and pointing people to the truth of the gospel.

John 3:16 is one of the most quoted verses in all of Scripture, and for good reason—it captures the heart of the Gospel. At its core, it is about God’s great love, expressed in giving.

God didn’t just feel love for the world; He acted on it. He gave His Son, the greatest gift of all, so that we could have eternal life.

That is stewardship. It’s more than money—it’s faithfully using whatever God has entrusted to us—our time, our talent, our treasure, and even our influence—for His glory. Just as God gave His Son, we are called to be givers: to give of ourselves so that others may experience His love.

You may not stand on a national stage like Tebow, but every one of us has a platform: our families, workplaces, neighborhoods, and communities. What we do with that influence matters. When we choose to live generously, to give of ourselves, and to boldly witness to Christ’s love, we are living as true stewards of the Gospel.

Stewardship Connection

  • Time: Am I carving out time to share God’s love with others, even in simple ways?
  • Talent: How can I use my unique skills to point people to Christ, as Tebow did with his platform?
  • Gifts: Am I giving in a way that reflects God’s own generosity toward me?
  • Service: Who in my life needs to hear, through my words or actions, that God so loves them?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for loving me so much that You gave Your only Son. Teach me to reflect Your generosity by giving of my time, my talent, my treasure, and my witness. Help me to see the opportunities You’ve placed before me to point others to Your love. May my life, like John 3:16, declare the Good News of Jesus Christ. Amen.
