  • How do I become Catholic?

The first part of one's journey towards becoming a fully initiatied Catholic is carried out through the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA).

Unbaptised, or baptised in a different tradition, we welcome everyone who desires initiation into the Catholic Church, but catechesis (echoing the life and ministry of Jesus Christ) and faith formation (how we appropriately continue to grow, discern, engage, and nurture our consciences) are essential.  Why?

    • As Catholics we are called to live in communion with  each other, steeped in the beauty, goodness, and Truth, freely offered in the faith by God's grace, the Holy Spirit.  An understanding of the faith, especially as expressed through the sacraments, is essential towards living in the world, but not of the world.
    • To be appropriately prepared and disposed to receive the fullness of grace offered through the sacraments and Catholic tradition, Catholics and non-Catholics at times need to resolve impediments that hinder full communion.   Good Shepherd Church has several Tribunal Advocates to help those who need to petition the Church for an annulment.

We do our best to accomodate for candidates' varying work schedules which can impede Sunday morning sessions.

Those interested in journeying into the Catholic Church should prayerfully complete THIS FORM and send it to Laura Hack in the Faith Formation Office, LHack@cdlex.org, 502-227-4511, x1349.  We will contact you as soon as possible and look forward to accompanying you.

  • How do I prepare to receive the sacraments?

Baptism for those under the age of seven, requires the following:

    • New parents  and the godparents must participate in a baptism preparation session. (Godparents who live out of town may participate at their home parish's baptism preparation session and submit their certificate to Good Shepherd.)
    • Each child needs one or two godparents.  A godparent, one man and/or one woman, must be a Catholic in good standing and registered at a parish. (One non-Catholic Christian may be a Christian witness, but again, only one man and one woman total.)
    • Complete a REGISTRATION FORM and submit with a legible copy of the child's state-issued Birth Certificate.
    • Godparents should contact their home parish and ask that they send an affirmation of their parish registration to:

    Attn:   Laura Hack

    Good Shepherd Catholic Church

    70 Shepherd Way

    Frankfort KY  40601

    • ONLY after all three items have been submitted to the Fornation Office can a date for the baptism be added to our parish calendar.  Please bring the documents to the parish office or email to FormationDocs@gssfrankfort.org.

  • Christ in My Home

Christ in My Home became a reality during the Pandemic of 2020 and in partnership with Ss. Francis & John, Georgetown. Without access to the celebration and presence of the Holy Mass and Holy Eucharist, most families sat in front of screens to try to engage in Mass.

Trying to serve our families during live online sessions we learned that we must remind the people of God that the domestic Church--our homes, is the place where the life and ministry of Jesus Christ was originally shared.

Christ in My Home strives to nurture the domestic Church by families and households discussing their faith, perhaps around dinner tables, praying together, asking others to join your family at Mass, challenging families to live out the sacraments in their everyday lives.

We hope you enjoy our weekly videos that work towards preparing our families for the next Sunday's Mass by reflecting on the Gospel.

Watch, Engage, Share, and see you at Mass!

    CHRIST IN MY HOME

  • What is Safe Environment Certification?

A Promise to Protect -- A Pledge to Heal

Anyone who is in contact with minors or vulnerable adults are required to be Safe Environment Certified, which includes a background check and signing the Lexington Diocese Pastoral Code of Conduct.

It is essential that the Catholic Church is a good steward of the gifted volunteers who serve with minors and vulnerable adults.  Catholic Mutual Group (CMG), our diocesan insurer, makes sure that our valuable disciples know how to protect themselves from being put in a vulnerable situation when working with minors and the vulnerable adults. CMG's certification empowers you, as a volunteer, to say "no" if you are asked to be with children without a second CMG Certified adult.

The following ministries require Safe Environment Certification:  Parish  and Diocesan Faculty and Staff, School Coaches, Drivers, Classroom Helpers, Chaperons, Babysitters, Eucharistic Ministers for the Carebound, CCD and Youth Life Volunteers, Sacramental Prep and OCIA Catechists, those who train lectors and Extra-ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and Stewart Home School Volunteers.

Go to: Lexington.CMGConnect.org and complete the Safe Environment curriculum. Please register with our Good Shepherd Church location, or parents of Good Shepherd School children register with Good Shepherd School as your location.  Towards the end of the online training you will be asked to submit information towards a background check. All background checks are vetted  through the Office of Human Resources at the Catholic Center, before the volunteer is approved as Safe Environment Certified.

It is also necessary that Good Shepherd Catholic Church and School have a Volunteer Application on file in our offices for all volunteers.

We cannot thank you enough for doing your part to make our campus safe, healthy, and Holy for our parishioners, visitors, and those we serve in our community.

You will be contacted if your current certification will be expiring. Please contact Laura with questions or concerns, LHack@cdlex.org.
